Dissociative Identity Disorder was known as multiple personality disorder. It was changed when the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or DSM-V, was released. The person must go through a traumatic event that causes massive amounts of stress for the disorder to show its self. It is usually caused by childhood sexual and physical abuses. After the event, the person has a brake with their identity and they create different ones called alters. These alters can have wildly different personalities, different voices, and even different eye sight.
